As you may have noticed, I am only updating the blog every week now--guess that means Stu is doing great!! He loves is "wings" (read 'car keys'). The freedom has been wonderful to both of us, and nice for all of our wonderful friends who have been driving Stu around. Stu goes to the gym almost every day, walks/runs on the treadmill, rides the stationary bike, and now lifts some weights. He still hasn't been on his road bike out on the open prairie for fear that he may fall and truly crack open his skull. That would be messy. He plans to get in the pool on Wednesday and join his swimming buddies in a workout.
Stu's 46th birthday was Saturday. He is a little more bald, thanks to the head shave, but that is temporary. We went out to dinner, and he enjoyed the texture of his food (best he can do without a sense of smell!!).
Stu isn't sure when he will be back at work, but it takes 3-6 months for the brain swelling to completely resolve. He will have another MRI at 3 months post-op, and I think that will give a better idea. For now, he is focused on gaining back some strength and endurance, resting well, and recovering. Happy Birthday!

That's great news Deb and Stu!! I enjoy the regular updates. Enjoying 3rd year, and really like Gyn-Onc, but it is almost all completely surgery based, so no surprise there.
ReplyDeleteMy best to both of you!
Happy Birthday Stu!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I had known, I would have brought you a birthday cake (made of ice cream because I don't bake cakes) to lunch on Friday. I hope you had a nice dinner and really enjoyed the sweet, sour, saltiness of your food. Hopefully your sense of taste will return soon. But, all-in-all, this had to be a pretty good birthday.
Sounds like you're all doing well. That's great! We'll be in Athens until Jun 2010... maybe you and that stud-muffin Stu can come over for a visit?
ReplyDeleteWell wishes for Stu from Ron Cazort, mtb riding buddy a few times and bro of Alicia at doctor Clayton's dental office.
ReplyDeleteNow would be the perfect time to challenge Stu to a bike race and actually have a chance at winning. Something tells me this window of opportunity will quickly shrink and disappear though.
Stumor - that had me rolling!
BTW, there is an upside to the olfactory thing, (well several, now that I'm thinking about it), but I was actually thinking of the money you can save happily drinking $7 bottles of wine instead of the hoity toity good stuff we all pretend we can truly appreciate.
Heal well and heal fast, Mr. Stu. I look forward to riding with you again sometime soon.

My son proudly harvested a "golden nugget" from his nose last week. The kind that only a guy can appreciate! My first thoughts went to...you guessed it Stu's recovery and his days of harvesting cornflakes.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is my son did not know what to do with the thing...think he too was shocked at the size of what could come out of his nose!
Take care and make it a great week!!
