Day 2 at home

The personal hygiene is a little better today--Stu got up, took a shower, shaved, and brushed his teeth. The catheter came out as well. The "mood" however is like PMS on steroids. This is going to be a fun recovery for everyone around him. I'm ready to ask the neurosurgeon to put the tumor back in!

Stu went to PT and OT today where they worked him hard. He will continue with physical therapy about 3 times per week. His gait is still just a little wobbly and sometimes his balance is off, but improving every day. He is supposed to play cards, scrabble, board games, etc at home for therapy, but fat chance that will happen. If anyone wants to stop by for a good game of Trivial Pursuit, please come over!!! (just don't expect you-know-who to be in a welcoming mood). Stu was such a funny person when he was high on pain meds....

  1. Hey Deb and Stu-
great to hear that things are getting better and Stu is able to get around easier. I don't think Stu is being overdramatic because we Gibson's are fairly bull headed and like for everyone else to see things our way and that is the only way. Deb take care and think of when Stu will be able to get out and blow some stink off beleive me it will do alot of good

    Thanks for the updates.

  3. Hi Deb,
Don't know that we've met, but, I work at Honeywell with Stu and he and I talk alot about running. Tell him I was thinking about him (and his family) during the Ragnar Relay this past weekend. Am looking forward to hearing him be all excited about some upcoming ultra-difficult "fun" event soon.
    take care.

  4. I'll come over and play Trivial Pursuit with him...it's probably the only time I stand a chance of beating him. Just let me know when he needs a little BT (brain therapy)...or you need a little break!

  5. Cousin Deb - Drew, John and I are keeping you and Stu in our prayers. Know that we love you both and keep reminding Stu how lucky he is to have you. Don't forget that a lot of people are around who care - don't forget to ask for help.
    Love, Cousin Donna

  6. Stu checkin in....
Feeling pretty good today. Not so much light sensitivity or headache. I think I slept a few hours last night for the first time in about a week since the serious hookup in the ICU. Pushing fluids and and out. This has been and amazing journey so far. Clearly different for those around me, than with in my own mind. I've not tried to be upset or angry, just trying to find that line between being a good patient and not letting people nag me about things over which I have no control. If you can't pee, you can't pee. I don't care if someone tells you to do it twice or thirty times. It's good to be home and listening to the dogs sleeping around my feet.
Thank you all for the wonderful cards, words of encouragement, and thoughts. They help. I feel them.
